Updated: Jan 16, 2023

Lady working as a Digital Nomad

You’ve probably seen people on Instagram travelling around the world, drinking strawberry daiquiris with a laptop on the beach and wondered, “What are you doing to live such a badass lifestyle?”

While we could speculate it’s because they have super rich parent or Onlyfans, the reality is that just about anyone can do it. In fact, there are many ways on how to become a digital nomad with no experience (that don’t involve selling butt photos either).

Before we get into how to become a digital nomad with no experience or skills or super rich parents, you have to ask yourself whether you are willing to sacrifice a few luxuries so that you can make being a digital nomad work. Nothing too crazy of course, maybe climbing a mountain for signal, showering with big spiders or getting chased by a horny goat.

OK, so it’s possible none of that could happen but when you are on the road, you have to be prepared for the unpredictable. With that in mind, let’s get into how to become a digital nomad with no experience.

1. Find a job that gives you the skills you need

If you have no experience or skills or talent in anything then being an influencer is perfect for you! OK, so that’s not really how to become a digital nomad with no experience as realistically you have to start at the bottom by finding a job that gives you useful skills. Finding a job in online marketing for example would give you a powerful skill-set to make being a digital nomad work in the future. You might even be able to secure a few freelance clients as you earn as you learn! Just don’t let the boss find out, a bit like the affair with his wife.

2. Use your spare time well

Becoming a digital nomad takes time so you can’t give the boss the middle finger just yet. Instead, use your free time to get some side hustles on the go and learn as much as you can. Some people got into writing Ebooks, party planning or even online tutoring, which are some great ways on how to become a digital nomad with no experience. There are websites like Udemy full of free courses to pick up beneficial skills such as starting a freelance business or how to make dank memes.

3. Get involved in gigs

Sign up to gig economy websites like Upwork, Fiverr and Freelancer where you can create a profile and offer your know-how skills for paid work. Most people tend to start out with writing but many niches are heavily saturated so instead focus on sub-niches like alien or werewolf erotica. You could also look into social media marketing, coding or graphic design. Other popular careers include virtual Assistant, proofreading, transcribing, data entry and voice acting are worth looking into if you are wondering how to become a digital nomad with no experience in the gig economy.

4. Buy a business that already exists

If you are too impatient to learn desirable skills and too uncomfortable to sell feet photos for lots of quick cash then buying an existing online business might be just the thing. There is a website called Flippa which is perfect for finding businesses to buy and the money you make could be enough to get started as a digital nomad. You might even make passive income, meaning you earn money while you sleep, eat and poop.

5. Save a ton then go live in a nomadic hub

Try to save as much as you can by making small sacrifices such as saving money on toiletries by not showering or spend less money on grocery shopping by switching to a cat food diet. If you want to learn how to become a digital nomad with no experience, it’s a lot to do with making tough choices now (and cat food is delicious anyways). When you have a considerable amount saved, you should then find a digital nomad hub to live in. Think places where cost of living is insanely cheap like in Thailand or on the moon. Since you will be around other nomads, you can pick up some insider know-how and more skills to keep the nomad dream alive.

6. Find a job in another country

By throwing yourself out of your comfort zone and moving abroad, you will uncover an internal motivation needed to also become a digital nomad. In fact, motivation is one of the most important skills you need when learning how to become a digital nomad with no experience. Since working abroad is usually temporary, if you love it enough then will find a way to make it permanent (and that doesn’t mean marrying someone for citizenship). A lot of people go on workaway, where they can volunteer their time for simple jobs like hostel receptionist or farm work. You could also consider becoming a teacher, ski instructor, diving instructor, tour guide. Why not combine two jobs into one like a Ski instructor stripper.

7. Convince your boss to let you work remotely

Some people have had the luxury of working from home due to the pandemic but what if your home was on a beach in Bali or in a camper van with 20 dogs? If you have a job already where you could work remotely, then why stay in the office? All you have to do is convince the boss that you can work more efficiently the further you are away from him. You might have to initially prove that you are fully capable of working remotely, maybe do a zoom call while in the bathroom or send a report from a closet in the bosses office. Your boss should be impressed that you know how to become a digital nomad with no experience and just let you go free.

8. Become a Cryptocurrency expert

Crypto isn’t just some buzzword to drop to look cool on a tinder date, it is also an actual way of making income. If there are no risks then there are no rewards, right? You don’t need to be a mathematician either to do Cryptocurrency as there are plenty of resources online such as Binance or Coinbase to learn all about it. Investing is one of the best methods when it comes to earning Crypto. If you got $50 worth of Bitcoin when it cost $1 10 years ago, you’d probably be a millionaire today.

So there you go, still think being a digital nomad is tough now that you know how to become a digital nomad with no experience? If you want to be a digital nomad, you have to make some sacrifices but didn’t we all already make some during the pandemic anyways?
